No-Bake Treasure Cakes
Crochet Pattern Materials Used: Sport weight yarn (Models created with Anne Geddes~Lily, Rosie, and Spearmint) Size F/5 (3.75mm) crochet hook Yarn needle Empty toilet paper or paper towel tube, cut into 1.5” lengths Battery operated tea lights Optional~Small amount of craft glue Size: Finished Treasure boxes measure approximately 2” tall and 2“ across. Finished Tea Light cover measures approximately 1” tall and 2” across. Stitches Used/Abbreviations: Ch-chain Rnd-round Sc-single crochet Hdc-half double crochet FLO-work in front loops only of indicated stitch(es) BLO-work in back loops only of indicated stitch(es) Bobble-to work this Bobble stitch~Yarn over, insert hook into indicated st. Yarn over, and draw up one loop. (3 loops will be on your hook) Yarn over, and draw through 2 loops. Yarn over, and insert hook into same stitch. Yarn over, and draw up a loop (4 loops will be on your hook). Yarn over, draw through 2 loops. Yarn over, draw through remaining 3 loops. Sl st-slip stitch |
Treasure Boxes~
Box Bottom:
Rnd 1: ch 2. Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: ch 1. Work 2 sc in each st around. Join. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: ch 1. *Sc in next st. Work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (24 sts)
Rnd 4: ch 1. *Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (32 sts) *If you want your frosted edge a different color, drop current color (DO NOT CUT). Join new color.
Rnd 5: ch 1, TURN. Working in FLO for this entire rnd, *Bobble in next st. Sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (32 sts) *If you changed colors, fasten off your new color, and pick up your first color.
Rnd 6: ch 1, TURN. Working in BLO, sc in each st around. Join. (32 sts)
Rnds 7-8: ch 1. Working in BLO, sc in each st around. Join. (32 sts) Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Box Top:
Repeat instructions for Box Bottom, stopping at rnd 7. Fasten off. Using tail from box bottom, sew top and bottom pieces together at center back of each piece, taking just 5 sts. This creates a small hinge.
Rosebud:
Ch 8. Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. *Work 2 hdc in in next ch. Work 2 sc in next ch*. Repeat (*) across, working 2 sc and 1 sl st in last ch. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Starting at beginning sc side, roll the length around the outside. Stitch through layers, on bottom edge. Sew to center top of cake.
Leaf:
Ch 3. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Work 1 sc and 1 sl st in last ch. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing. Place in desired position(s) on cake.
Bunting:
Ch 44. Starting in 2nd ch from hook, *Sl st in each of the next 2 chs. Work 2 sc in next ch. Work 2 hdc in next ch. Work 2 sc in next ch. Sl st in each of the next 2 chs. Skip 2 chs*. Repeat (*) across, ending with a sl st in each of the last 2 chs. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Line bunting up, just under your bobble rnd on Box Top. Stitch in place, through the top points, making sure it reaches all the way around the cake.
Place an empty toilet paper tube, or paper towel tube, that has been cut into a 1.5” long section, into the Box Bottom. Use glue, if desired, to hold it securely. Once glue is dry, your Treasure Cake is ready to fill with whatever you like!
Tealight Cover:
Rnd 1: ch 6. Join to form a ring. Ch 1. Work 12 sc in ring. Join. (12 sts)
Rnd 2: ch 1. *Sc in next st. Work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (18 sts)
Rnd 3: ch 1. *Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (24 sts) *If you want your frosted edge a different color, drop current color (DO NOT CUT). Join new color.
Rnd 4: ch 1, TURN. Working in BLO for this entire rnd, *Bobble in next st. Sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (24 sts) *If you changed colors, fasten off your new color, and pick up your first color.
Rnd 5: ch 1, TURN. Working in BLO, sc in each st around. Join. (24 sts)
Rnds 6-7: ch 1. Working in BLO, sc in each st around. Join. (24 sts) Fasten off.
Decorate as desired, or leave plain. Place over a battery operated tealight, making sure the “flame” comes up through the hole in the center.
