I couldn't let that pass without commemorating it in some small way~lol Of course, when you have teens, sometimes they are just "too cool" to take Moms crocheted creations to school with them, so I designed my pencil pouch (which I think is absolutely cool enough for school!) to put my spare hooks in! Not JUST for Pencils Pencil Pouch Crochet Pattern Materials Used: 30-40 yds worsted weight yarn, in your choice of colors. (Model created with Pink, Light Gray, Yellow, Tan and Black) Size G/6 (4.50mm) crochet hook Yarn needle Size/Gauge: Gauge is not important to this project. Finished model measures 8" long (with flap closed) and 3.75" wide, and will fit standard sized ink pens, pencils, crochet hooks and even scissors! Flap Slot:
With Gray, ch 16. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook, and each remaining ch. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. Set aside for now.
Front Piece:
Row 1: With Black, ch 2. Work 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (3 sts)
Row 2: ch 1, TURN. Work 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in next st. Work 2 sc in last st. (5 sts)
Row 3: ch 1, TURN. Sc in each st across. (5 sts) Fasten off Black. Join Tan.
Row 4: ch 1, TURN. Work 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Work 2 sc in last st. (7 sts)
Row 5: ch 1, TURN. Work 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 5 sts. Work 2 sc in last st. (9 sts)
Row 6: ch 1, TURN Sc in each st across. (9 sts)
Row 7: ch 1, TURN. Work 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Work 2 sc in last st. (11 sts)

Row 5: ch 1, TURN. Work 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 5 sts. Work 2 sc in last st. (9 sts)

Row 36: ch 1, TURN. Working in FLO for this entire row, sc in each st across. (15 sts)
Row 37: ch 1, TURN. Working in BLO for this entire row, sc in each st across. (15 sts)
Rows 38-42: ch 1, TURN. Sc in each st across. (15 sts) Fasten off Pink after row 42. Join Gray.
Rows 43-44: ch 1, TURN. Sc in each st across. (15 sts) Fasten off Gray after row 44. Join Yellow.
Row 45: ch 1, TURN. Sc in each st across. (15 sts) Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Place the Flap Slot on top of the Front piece, directly over rows 28-29 (Gray). Stitch only the ends to each side of Front piece, leaving the center open.
Place the assembled Front piece on top of the Back piece, with wrong sides together. (Make sure your Flap will easily fold down over the Front piece. Line the colors of each piece up so they match, and starting at the top side of the Front piece, Sc down the side, toward the point. Work 3 sc in the point. Sc up the opposite side, until you reach the end of the Front piece. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
You may choose to sc the outer edge in all one color, or you can change colors with the piece, as I did.
