One of my crafty endeavors in the past year, has been to create wooden crochet hooks. All natural, from fun local sources. I have made them from Oak, and Pecan, Cedar, and Sycamore, Beech, and Walnut...and any other woods I can get! I adore making them~the wood is wonderful to work with, and the smell from sanding all these woods is AMAZING!
Recently, I found a new source of wood~the actual stalks from cotton plants! Never would I have thought those stalks were wood~they are just plants, right? Well~I gave it a try, and the results were incredible! A smooth pretty little hook, that just FEELS right in my hand. And to work up yarn with them is great, too! The more you work with them, the smoother and shinier they seem to get, and yet, they seem to hold up very well.
Just last week, I had a request I had never gotten before...someone wanted to be a "hook fairy"! This lady wanted to purchase a hook, for me to send to another lady~unbeknownst to her. So, we set it up, and I sent the hook out. The giftee received her hook today, and THIS was her reaction...You really MUST go read this~Miss Becky has a wonderful talent for story-telling, and her story made my heart SOAR!
