Here is my first ever FREE pattern! A quick and simple project for any little one. Perfect "scratch mitts" if made in a lightweight yarn, for year round use, or for those cold winter months, when made in warmer yarn :)
Stripes~Thumb-less Baby Mittens
Materials Used:
Worsted weight yarn in your choice of colors (Models made in Red Heart “Colonial” and “Wedgewood” blues)
Size G/6 (4.25mm) crochet hook
Size/Gauge:
Small: 0-6 months
Large: 6-12 months
Gauge: 4 stitches/3 rows=1 inch
Size range can be adjusted by using different sized hooks, and different weights of yarn.
Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
Ch-chain
Rnd-round
Sc-single crochet
Hdc-half double crochet
Sc2tog-single crochet two stitches together
Hdc2tog-half double crochet two stitches together
*This pattern is worked entirely in rounds. DO NOT TURN.*
Instructions:
Rnd 1: With Color A, ch 2, work 8 hdc in 1st ch. Join with slip stitch to 1st hdc.
Rnd 2: ch 2, work 2 hdc in each st around. Join.
Rnd 3: ch 2, *Hdc in next st, work 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat(*) around. Join.
Rnds 4-6: ch 2, hdc in each st around. Join.
*For 6-12 month size, do one more row here.*
Fasten off Color A, join Color B.
Rnd 7: ch 2, *Skip next st, work 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join.
Rnd 8: ch 2, Work 2 hdc in each “space” from previous row. Join. Fasten off Color B, join Color A.
Rnd 9: ch 2, hdc in each st around. Join.
Rnd 10: ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 11 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 11 sts. Join.
Rnd 11: ch 2, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 10 sts, hdc2tog, hdc in each of the next 10 sts. Join.
Rnd 12: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 9 sts, sc2tog, sc in each of the next 9 sts. Join. Fasten off Color A, join Color B.
Rnd 13: *Ch 1, skip next st, work 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join.
Rnd 14: ch 1, sc in each st around. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Repeat for 2nd mitten, reversing colors, if you wish.
To join mittens (so they won’t get lost), use 2 strands together (I used 1 of each color) ch 60-75, fasten off, and one end to each mitten. Weave in ends, and you’re done!
