Autumn is my favorite time of year...the smells, the cooler weather, the colors, and yes~the pumpkins!
I couldn't resist making some fall decor, but I wanted to be a little bit different, so follow me for the free pattern for my Pretty Plump-kin~ |
Pretty Plumpkin
Crochet Pattern
Materials Used:
Worsted weight yarn in Rust Orange and Forest Green
Size G/6 (4.25mm) crochet hook
Stuffing
Yarn needle
Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
ch-chain
rnd-round
sc-single crochet
hdc-half double crochet
sl st-slip stitch
Gauge is not important to this project, so feel free to change hook/yarn sizes to suit your preference.

Instructions: (Entire project is constructed from pentagon shapes. Make 12.)
Rnd 1: ch 2. Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. (5 sts)
Rnd 2: *ch 3. Sl st in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join by sl st in 1st loop. (5 loops)
Rnd 3: ch 1. Work 4 hdc in each loop around. Join. (20 sts)
Rnd 4: ch 1. *Work {1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc} all in next st. Hdc in each of the next 3 sts*. Repeat (*) around. Join. Fasten off.
Rnd 1: ch 2. Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. (5 sts)
Rnd 2: *ch 3. Sl st in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join by sl st in 1st loop. (5 loops)
Rnd 3: ch 1. Work 4 hdc in each loop around. Join. (20 sts)
Rnd 4: ch 1. *Work {1 hdc, ch 2, 1 hdc} all in next st. Hdc in each of the next 3 sts*. Repeat (*) around. Join. Fasten off.
Join pentagons to create a top and a bottom, like this. Join 1 pentagon to each side of the center pentagon, and then join each side pentagon to each other, using your preferred joining method. (I sl st through the back loops of each piece.)

Once you have the top and bottom pieces assembled, join them together to form a ball. Stuff before closing completely.

Cut a long length of yarn, and using a yarn needle, sew through the center space of the top pentagon, bringing the needle out through the center space of the bottom pentagon.

Continue sewing through the center space, from top to bottom, pulling each stitch tight to create a new section, until you have desired number of sections. (I liked the look of 5 sections for my plumpkin.) Tie off on bottom, and pull ends inside the pumpkin.

Stem: (Make 1)
Rnd 1: ch 2. Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. (5 sts)
Rnd 2: *ch 3. Sl st in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join by sl st in 1st loop. (5 loops)
Rnd 3: ch 1. Work 4 hdc in each loop around. Join. (20 sts)
Fold in half, lining up edges. Sl st through both layers along entire edge. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Rnd 1: ch 2. Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. (5 sts)
Rnd 2: *ch 3. Sl st in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join by sl st in 1st loop. (5 loops)
Rnd 3: ch 1. Work 4 hdc in each loop around. Join. (20 sts)
Fold in half, lining up edges. Sl st through both layers along entire edge. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Make 1 stem piece. Fold it in half and slip stitch the edges together. Stitch to pumpkin top, through center stitch. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
