
Sandy’s Dolphin Crochet Applique Pattern
Designed in honor of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy.
Some of my fellow pattern designers, as well as myself, are designing squares, beanies, appliques, etc... for anyone who is interested in contributing.
I have designed a simple dolphin applique, in honor of the victims and survivors, and it is available here for you.
Worsted weight yarn
Size G/6 (4.25mm) crochet hook
Size/Gauge:
Gauge is not important to this project.
Finished model is 3” long from nose to tail, and 2” high.
Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
Ch-chain
Sc-single crochet
Hdc-half double crochet
Dc-double crochet
Sl st-slip stitch
Instructions: (Work continuously~I separated each part to cut down on
confusion, but this is worked all in one piece)
Start of head~Ch 10. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Work 2 hdc in next
ch. Work 2 dc in next ch.
Top Fin~Ch 3. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Sl st in to top of last dc.
Body~Dc in each of the next 2 chs of beginning ch. Hdc in next ch. Sc in next ch.
Sl st in last ch.
Tail~Ch 4. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Sl st in next ch. Sl st back into
last st of body. Ch 4. Sl in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Sl st in next ch. Sl st
back into last st on body. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Optional Eye~Using a contrast color take a quick st between the sc and 1st hdc
on head. Fasten off.
