SHARK! Beverage Cozy
Crochet Pattern Materials Used: Worsted weight yarn (Blue, Gray, White, Black) Size H/8 (5.00mm) crochet hook Yarn needle Size/Gauge: Fits most cans and bottles. Gauge: 7 hdc sts=2” 5 hdc rows=2” Stitches Used/Abbreviations: Ch-chain Rnd-round Sc-single crochet Sc2tog-single crochet two stitches together Hdc-half double crochet Bphdc-back post half double crochet. Work hdc stitches around the back of the post of indicated stitch(es) Dc-double crochet Sl st-slip stitch |
Rnd 1: With Blue, ch 2. Work 10 hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. (10 sts)
Rnd 2: ch 1. Work 2 hdc in each st around. Join. (20 sts)
Rnd 3: ch 1. *Hdc in next st. Work 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (30 sts)
Rnd 4: ch 1. Bphdc in each st around. Join. (30 sts)
Rnd 5: ch 1. *Sc in next st. Hdc in next st. Dc in next st. Hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around, ending with a sc in the 2nd to last st, and hdc in last st. Join. Fasten off Blue, Join Gray. (30 sts)
Rnd 6: ch 1. Sc in each st around. Join. (30 sts)
Rnds 7-11: ch 1. Hdc in each st around. Join. (30 sts) Now switching to rows.
Row 12: ch 1. Hdc in each of the next 15 sts. Leave remaining sts unworked for now. (15 sts)
Row 13: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 11 sts. Sc2tog. (13 sts)
Row 14: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Sc2tog. (11 sts)
Row 15: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Sc2tog. (9 sts)
Row 16: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 5 sts. Sc2tog. (7 sts)
Row 17: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Sc2tog. (5 sts)
Row 18: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in next st. Sc2tog. (3 sts) Fasten off.
Join yarn in next unworked st from row 12. Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 11 sts. Sc2tog. (13 sts)
Repeat instructions for rows 14-18. Fasten off after row 18.
Teeth:
Join White yarn in any stitch(row ends). *Ch 2. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in next st*. Repeat (*) around entire opening. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Eyes: (Make 2)
With Black, ch 2. Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Fin:
Rnd 1: With Gray, ch 2. Work 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook. DO NOT JOIN. (4 sts)
Rnd 2: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in next st} 2 times. (6 sts)
Rnd 3: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts} 2 times. (8 sts)
Rnd 4: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts} 2 times. (10sts)
Rnd 5: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts} 2 times. (12 sts)
Rnd 6: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 5 sts} 2 times (14 sts)
Rnd 7: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 6 sts} 2 times. (16 sts)
Rnd 8: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts} 2 times. (18 sts)
Rnd 9: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 8 sts} 2 times. Sl st in next st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly:
You may stuff the fin, or not, as you wish. I did not stuff mine.
Line edge of fin up with rnd 5, and stitch in place.
Place eyes on either side of fin, near points in the opening of the mouth, and stitch in place.
