It's Shark Week again! And~I still love sharks!
I thought it would be fun (and practical!) to create a popsicle cozy to match our beverage cozy from a few years back, so~Here he is! He is pretty versatile, so he'll gobble up most any size popsicle you feed him ;) Follow me for the free pattern~ |

SHARK! Freezie Sleeve
Crochet Pattern Materials Used: Worsted weight yarn (Blue, Gray, White, Black) Size H/8 (5.00mm) crochet hook Yarn needle Size/Gauge: Fits most Pop-Ice or similar popsicles. Gauge: 8 sc sts=2” 8 sc rows=2” Stitches Used/Abbreviations: Ch-chain Rnd-round Sc-single crochet Sc2tog-single crochet two stitches together Hdc-half double crochet Bphdc-back post half double crochet. Work hdc stitches around the back of the post of indicated stitch(es) Dc-double crochet BLO-work in back loops only of indicated stitch(es) Sl st-slip stitch |

Instructions:
Rnd 1: With Blue, ch 4. Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Work 4 sc in last ch. Working the opposite side of beginning ch, sc in next st. Work 2 sc in last st. Join. (10 sts)
Rnd 2: ch 1. Work 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Work 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Work 2 sc in last st. Join. (14 sts)
Rnd 3: ch 1. Bphdc in each st around. Join. (14 sts)
Rnd 4: ch 1. *Sc in next st. Hdc in next st. Dc in next st. Hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around, ending with a sc in the 2nd to last st, and hdc in last st. Join. Fasten off Blue, Join Gray. (14 sts)
Rnd 5: ch 1. Working in BLO for this entire rnd ONLY, Sc in each st around. Join. (14 sts)
Rnds 6-10: ch 1. Sc in each st around. Join. (14 sts) Now switching to rows.
Row 11: ch 1. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Leave remaining sts unworked for now. (7 sts)
Row 12: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Sc2tog. (5 sts)
Row 13: ch 1, TURN. Sc in each st across. (5 sts)
Row 14: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in next st. Sc2tog. (3 sts)
Row 15: ch 1, TURN. Sc2tog. Sc in next st. (2 sts) Fasten off.
Join yarn in next unworked st from row 11. Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Sc2tog. (5 sts)
Repeat instructions for rows 13-15. Fasten off after row 15.
Teeth:
Join White yarn in any stitch(row ends). *Ch 2. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in next st*. Repeat (*) around entire opening. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Eyes: (Make 2)
With Black, ch 2. Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Fin:
Rnd 1: With Gray, ch 2. Work 4 sc in 2nd ch from hook. DO NOT JOIN. (4 sts)
Rnd 2: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in next st} 2 times. (6 sts)
Rnd 3: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts} 2 times. (8 sts)
Rnd 4: {Work 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts} 2 times. (10sts) Sl st in next st. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
Assembly:
You may stuff the fin, or not, as you wish. I did not stuff mine.
Line edge of fin up with rnd 5, and stitch in place.
Place eyes on either side of fin, near points in the opening of the mouth, and stitch in place.
