Bag:
Rnd 1: ch 25. Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each of the next 22 chs. Work 4 sc in last ch. Working the opposite side of the ch, sc in each of the next 22 sts. Work 2 sc in last st. Join. (52 sts)
Rnd 2: ch 1, TURN. Work 2 sc in each of the next 2 sts. Sc in each of the next 22 sts. Work 2 sc in each of the next 4 sts. Sc in each of the next 22 sts. Work 2 sc in each of the last 2 sts. Join. (60 sts)
Rnd 3: ch 1, TURN. Sc in each st around. Join. (60 sts)
Rnd 4: ch 1, DO NOT TURN. Sc in each st around. Join. (60 sts)
Rnds 5-16: ch 1, TURN. *Hdc in BLO of each of the next 5 sts. Hdc in FLO of each of the next 5 sts*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (60 sts)
Rnd 17: ch 1, DO NOT TURN. *Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Sc2tog*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (50 sts)
Rnds 18-19: ch 1, DO NOT TURN. Sc in each st around. Join. Fasten off.
**NOTE~You can easily make a deeper bag by adding rounds into the 5-16 section, just remember to end on an even numbered round.
Strap:
Row 1: ch 3. Hdc in 2nd ch from hook. Hdc in last ch. (2 sts)
Row 2: ch 1, TURN. Hdc in each st across. (2 sts)
Rows 3-End: Continue repeating row 2 until desired length is reached. Fasten off.
Assembly:
Place either end of strap inside the top side edges of bag. Stitch in place.
Create your mandala~decide where you want the overhang to be. (I used the bottom 2/3rds of my mandala to create the front overhang, but you could use the halfway mark, or 1/4 mark, too.) Stitch the TOP section of the mandala to the top back edge of the bag, folding the bottom section over to the front.
Sew a button to the center front of the bag, to line up with the openings of the mandala for a button closure.
