Stained Glass Spiral Square~Free Crochet Pattern

​I was designing another pattern using this concept, and thought~What a beautiful square this would make!
So, without further ado, here is my 8.5" Stained Glass Spiral Square~

Crochet Pattern
Materials Used:
Worsted weight yarn in 2 colors of choice (Model made in Red Heart Super Saver Black~Color A, and Mexicana~Color B
Size H/8 (5.00mm) crochet hook

Size/Gauge:
Finished square measures 8.5” x 8.5”.
Gauge: 7 hdc sts=2”
           4 hdc rows=2”

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
Ch-chain
Rnd-round
Sc-single crochet
Hdc-half double crochet
Dc-double crochet
Sl st-slip stitch

Instructions:
Rnd 1: With Color A, ch 2. Work 8 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Place a stitch marker in last st. Remove hook from stitch, and join Color B in same st as previous 8 sc sts are worked. Ch 1, work 1 sc in same st.
Rnd 2: Continuing with Color B, work 2 sc in each st around. Do not join. (16 sts) Move stitch marker to last st worked. Remove hook from stitch, and pick up last stitch of Color A. (See photos below for visual assistance)
Rnd 3: Continuing with Color A, *Sc in next st, work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. (24 sts) Move stitch marker to last st worked. Remove hook from stitch, and pick up last st of Color B.

 Rnd 4: Continue with Color B. *Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. (32 sts) Move marker to last st. Remove hook and pick up last st of Color A.
Rnd 5: Continue with Color A. *Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Work 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. (42 sts) Move marker to last st. Remove hook and pick up last st of Color B.
Rnd 6: Continue with Color B. *Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around to last 2 sts. Sc in each of the last 2 sts. (52 sts) Move marker to last st. Remove hook and pick up last st of Color A.
Rnd 7: Continue with Color A. *Dc in each of the next 4 sts. Work 2 dc in next st*. Repeat (*) around to the last 2 sts. Dc in each of the last 2 sts. (62 sts) Move marker to last st. Remove hook and pick up last st of Color B.
Rnd 8: Continue with Color B. *Sc in each of the next 5 sts. Work 2 sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around to the last 2 sts. Sc in each of the last 2 sts. Fasten off Color B, by working an additional sl st in last st. (72 sts) Pick up last st of Color A.
Rnd 9: Continue with Color A. Hdc in each of the next 36 sts. Sc in each of the next 36 sts. Sl st in next st.
Rnd 10: ch 1. *Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Hdc in each of the next 3 sts. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Hdc in each of the next 3 sts. Dc in each of the next 2 sts. Work {2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc} all in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join.
Rnd 11: ch 1. Hdc in each of the next 18 sts. *Work {2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc} in next ch 2 space. Hdc in each of the next 20 sts*. Repeat (*) around to last 2 sts. Hdc in each of the last 2 sts. Join. Fasten off.

*For best results, I recommend blocking your square! Make 25-30, and join using your favorite method for an awesome throw!
