Super Bulky Slightly Slouchy Hat~FREE Pattern

I recently received some amazing yarns from Red Heart Yarns. Included, was this fantastic #6 super bulky yarn, called Boutique Twilight. I knew instantly that this yarn was destined to become a slouchy style hat! So I designed one, in my daughter's favorite style~with a saucy little brim. (This is optional~the pattern has instructions for it with or without.)

    If you haven't tried the Boutique Twilight yarn yet, you really should~you won't be disappointed! It has a woven texture to the yarn itself, with just a hint of metallic running through it. It is very soft~not scratchy at all~making it an excellent choice for nearly any project meant to be next to the skin.
    It is a #6 super bulky, so that means it works up your projects very quickly, too. I had no problems with it snagging, splitting, or slipping off my hook~it truly IS a pleasure to use.

Crochet Pattern
Materials Used:
55-75 yds. Of Super Bulky weight yarn #6 (Model made in Red Heart Boutique Twilight~Jaded) *Can also be created with double strand Worsted weight yarn.
Size N (9.00mm) crochet hook

Size: Teen/Adult

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
Ch-chain
Rnd-round
Sc-single crochet
Hdc-half double crochet
Dc-double crochet
VST-V-stitch~To work a V-stitch, work 1 dc in indicated stitch. Ch 1. Work another dc in same stitch.
BLO-work in back loops only of indicated stitch(es)
Sl st-slip stitch

*Note~ I was able to create the model hat, using only one full skein of Boutique Twilight. However, you may want to have a second skein on hand, to adjust for gauge, or any variations (such as extra rounds or brim options.)

Instructions:
Rnd 1: ch 2. Work 10 hdc in 1st ch. Join. (10 sts)
Rnd 2: ch 1. VST in each st around. Join. (10 Vsts)
Rnd 3: ch 1. *VST in ch 1 space of next VST. Ch 1*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (10 Vsts+10 ch 1 spaces) 
Rnd 4: ch 1. *VST in ch 1 space of next VST. Ch 1. Dc in next ch 1 space. Ch 1*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (10 Vsts+10 sts+20 ch 1 spaces)
Rnd 5: ch 1. *VST in ch 1 space of next VST. Ch 1. VST in next dc st. Ch 1*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (20 Vsts+20 ch 1 spaces)
Rnds 6-8: ch 1. *VST in ch 1 space of next VST*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (20 Vsts) *For more slouch to your hat, add another rnd or two here.*
Rnd 9: ch 1. *Sc in ch 1 space of next VST. Sc in next space between Vsts*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (40 sts)
For a Brim:
Rnd 10: ch 1, TURN. Working in the BLO for this row only, Sc in next st. Work 2 hdc in next st. Hdc in each of the next 8 sts. Work 2 hdc in next st. Sc in next st. Sl st in next st. (15 sts)
Rnd 11: ch 1, TURN. Sc in next st. Work 2 hdc in next st. Hdc in each of the next 10 sts. Work 2 hdc in next st. Sc in next st. Sl st in next st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
OR For a Brimless Edge, replace rnds 10 and 11 with these 2 rnds~
Rnd 10 (Alternate): ch 1, TURN. Hdc in each st around. Join. (40 sts)
Rnd 11 (Alternate): ch 1, TURN. Sc in each st around. Join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
