I recently began retiring a few of my older designs. I came across this one, and really love the simple cuteness of it, so I decided to share it with everyone! These are my Sweet Baby Beanies, and here is how I make them~
Sweet Baby Beanies
Materials Used:
Lion Brand “Jiffy” in Pink, Red Heart Super Saver in Blue, small amount of Fuschia and White for flower
Size G/6 (4.25mm) crochet hook
Yarn needle to sew on flower
Sizes/Gauge:
Newborn-3 mos.
3-12 mos.
Gauge: 6 rows=2“
8 stitches=2”
Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
Ch-chain
Rnd-round
Sc-single crochet
Hdc-half double crochet
FLO-front loops only
BLO-back loops only
*This pattern is worked entirely in rounds. DO NOT TURN, unless otherwise instructed to do so.*
Instructions:
Hat:
Rnd 1: ch 2, work 8 hdc in 1st ch. Join with slip st to 1st hdc. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: ch 1, work 2 hdc in each st around. Join. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: ch 1, *Work 1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (24 sts)
Rnd 4: ch 1, *Work 1 hdc in each of the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (32 sts)
Rnd 5: ch 1, *Work 1 hdc in each of the next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (40 sts) *Stop here for Newborn. Skip to Rnd 7.
Rnd 6: ch 1, *Work 1 hdc in each of the next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. (48 sts)
Rnd 7: ch 1, work 1 hdc in each st around. Join.
Repeat rnd 7, until desired length is reached. Use chart below, for suggested sizing.
Finishing rnd: ch 2, work 4 hdc in same st as joining. *Skip next 2 sts. Work 5 hdc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. Join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Flower:
With pink (or desired center color), ch 2, work 6 sc in 1st ch. Join. Fasten off.
Join white, working in BLO, *ch 6, sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. (6 long “petals” in back) Slip stitch into 1st unused front loop. Working in FLO, *ch 3, sc in next st*. Repeat (*) around. (6 short “petals” in front) Join with slip stitch in base of 1st st. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Use a yarn needle and center color yarn to stitch flower onto hat, just above brim.
